pj: yokoso ichiban

i always check voucher/groupon sites. one time a saw a promotion for yokoso ichiban which was at the ss2 mall very near our workplace. i got the vouchers i think it was a little over 20RM each and we got a pretty decent meal out of it.

each one of us got the following.

salmon sashimi, pretty decent

2 temaki fresh brightly colored ebikko/tobiko

one salmon roll as pictured above

i was stuffed by the end of the meal, i remember getting miso soup as well dunno if i paid for that separately. it was really a good deal. however, we have not gotten back again. but the food was actually good.

kl: royale vietnam

i am in search of a good vietnamese restaurant in kl and when vouchers were made available for royale vietnam, i grabbed one.

my "clean"  buco

fresh spring rolls...look at that fancy garnish. now i know why this resto is named royale vietnam. the food is well decorated fit for royalty. noting really special on this one.

another fancy presentation for the fried spring rolls. this was really oily and not crispy as the ones i've tried.

forgot to take a picture of the ox tail stew which tasted like a mild caldereta. our meal cost a little over 100RM, i got the 100RM voucher for 50 so it wasn't that bad. but i wouldn't pay these items at full price.

kl: tonkatsu at tonkatsu

yeah the restaurant's name is quite creative eh? it's named tonkatsu too.  it has the same concept as yabu and saboten.

tonkatsu is the closest i can get to yabu and saboten so i tried it out to see how it fares.

the usual sesame seeds and tonkatsu sauce. i honestly don't think that the sesame seeds add anything to the tonkatsu sauce and this is not just in tonkatsu but also in yabu and saboten.

i got pork tonkatsu, can't remember if it was with or without fat. i read somewhere that the reason why tonkatsus are tender is because they are made up of thinly sliced pork, in this case it was really obvious. the meat was not dense enough so i reckon this was made with thinly sliced pork.

the rest of the meal with rice and miso soup.

it was okay, nothing to rave about good enough to satiate a tonkatsu craving but not the best that i've had.

kl: fun at fullhouse

fullhouse is based on the korean tv series full house. the first time i've been here was in the kl branch which was actually a full blown house. patterned after the house in the series.

luckily i found pictures from my first outing way way back i forgot when was this! mint chocolate shake? and chicken chop. i liked the creamy mashed potato and the gravy which had raisins or sultanas which created a nice contrast against the tangy gravy. and the ambiance really lets you enjoy the food.

here's other photos from a food outing in a different branch. look at the menu which has a magazine type quality, glossy full colored pages.

creamy chunky mushroom soup

just a normal clubhouse sandwich nothing fancy

the other branches try to simulate the same interiors but nothing beats a full pledge stand alone house. if you want to try the place go to the jalan yap kwan seng branch.

pj: dimsum feast at imperial garden

tai thong is a famous restaurant chain in kl and with a 50% off dimsum promotion, how can you resist? dimsum then costs the same as the ones in jalan ipoh but with better ambiance and "cleaner" food and service. this was actually a treat by one of my colleagues one fine lunch day.

pork filled chee cheong fun

shrimp filled chee cheong fun

radish cake

siu mai - look at the eggs they were real unlike aked esplanade's

hakao

fish ball

pork ribs with tausi

chicken feet - my dimsum staple :D

shark's fin? i don't think so. shark's fin dumpling is not common in kl this is probabaly just a regular pork dumpling.

everything was fine except for this one, i wanted to try a custard filled pao as it was my first time and i love custard. the dough was dry the custard was dry as well, totally forgettable. we also had egg tarts which i forgot to take a picture of.

overall the dimsum is good, the 50% off discount is definitely worth it, but i will never pay full price for yum cha i will just eat a regular meal at this place instead since price is a bit steep.

kl: did i go loco over loco?

i believe this was one of my birthday dinners. wanted to try out the new mexican resto near my friend's place.  kl is in dire need of better mexican restos there's only a few and i don't think they fare well against the ones in manila.

so here's what we got at loco.

fried jalapeño polenta - this was a disappointment, tasteless and very dry.

duck chimichanga - ok, i didn't know chimichangas are round. i grew up loving miggy's chimichanga which is flat with hefty chicken meat, corn and cheese inside. anyway, having duck as the meat was a refreshing take on this mexican treat. however, the sauce on the side was far from being mexican it actually seemed like a sambal sauce. there are other sauces on the table, 3 types of salsas to be exact and none of which had the distinct mexican flavors of fresh chillis and herbs so it was really a miss. the duck chimichangga itself was nicely filled with shredded duck meat and was fried to perfection. you can try it out yourself maybe it suits your palate.

kl: mexican fix at fresca

blaming it to d who posted a picture of her enchilada that suddenly i had a craving for some yummy mexican. i did some googling and found out there's a new mexican resto at the gardens which i wasn't aware of.

empanadas? i forgot if these were indeed empanadas. it had a different dough compared to the empanadas i have tried and i'm not talking about just filipino empanadas but the ones in south america as well. it was nice....would have wanted to try the stuffed jalapeño but my lunch partner wasn't keen on spicy stuff.

beef enchiladas with refried beans and mexican rice. it was just the right amount of serving, perfect for one starving person hehe.

i would like to go back and try the other items especially the stuffed jalapeño.
