we love beso

the last of my 2013 eats and one of the best meals of 2013. we didn't have a kl christmas dinner so we decided to meet up in manila instead. beso exceeded our expectations, we liked it a lot.

forgot what this is called, but basically a selection of chorizos and ham.
we liked everything, they are not salty at all.

this isn't really spectacular but it's quite unique, dark chocolate and
chorizo on bread.

clams with white wine? yummy just soak the bread in the sauce.

mussels with a tomato based sauce..yummy too!

humongous prawns/shrimps were used for the gambas.
i am salivating right now as i try to recall this dish.

the paella is overloaded with seafood, this is the only
time i 'll complain about a paella not having enough rice.

we really loved this dinner. maybe we should make it a tradition and hopefully next time more kl friends can join. we had sangria too, such a gastronomic treat.

namnam

i've wanted to try this place for the longest time and finally had the chance. unfortunately i wasn't impressed. not that the food was bad but it wasn't mind blowing as well. i guess the good reviews gave me higher expectations. it's good enough if you want to try traditional filipino food fare or filipino food with a twist.

cheese stuffed chili in spring roll wrapper. forgot how they call this but this is
commonly known as dynamite. it's not spicy at all.

pako aka fern salad with a citrusy vinaigrette tossed with tomatoes,
smoked fish and salted egg.

patis (fish sauce) wings - sweet, salty and crispy

garlicky bangus belly

beef short ribs sinigang with watermelon

mango and kesong puti turon

chuck's deli

the secret is with the bread...soft pillowy insides and a crusty outside. i tried one of the bestsellers, the buffy, it's buffalo chicken fillets. the flavors were spot on and they don't scrimp on the filling, it was really good. this was a half slab and it is more than enough. i think 1/4 is just right especially with the sides.

unagi katsu

i love eel and was curious on how ginza bairin fares in the battle of tonkatsus. let's just say i will never shell out more than 700PHP for eel katsu! it was oily and the unagi didn't have any flavor. though my friend said her curry katsu fared much better. stick to the classics i hate expensive meals that are not worth it!

ikkoryu ramen

since ippudo hasn't reached the manila shores yet, i tried to find a similar ramen and thought ikkoryu fits the bill. let's just say it doesn't hit the spot. it was oily and has very little broth. can you see my black garlic ramen with all the noodles exposed. on top of this service was abysmal and they weren't even full then.

one of the specials during the time we ate there.
it's a ponzu based ramen if i'm not mistaken

black garlic ramen

karaage - crispy but can use more seasoning
